Introduction

This is the first post of the LayWoman's Horse. Growing up, my father was in the military and since we moved from base to base every couple of years we never had pets that lasted longer then a few months. So, needless to say - We never had horses. My mother had stories from her past experiences with ownership and visions of future grandiose. A family farm with hundreds of acres and breeding quality Appaloosa's.. but this dream never happened as she passed away in August 2010.

I have carried on this dream. Through experiences I will share I have gained some basic knowledge of what I want and don't want when it comes to horse ownership. I still crave knowledge of general horsemanship. Grooming, groundwork, first-aid, preventative care, feed and nutrition, etc.. And lets face it - there are tons of opinions about which way is the right way. Those people who believe that if you are not doing it their way, then you are doing it the wrong way.

This blog will be about giving you - the layperson - a well rounded discusion, educated discussion on everything that could possibly pertain to the well-balanced care of your horse. Of course, my personal opinion will be thrown in but always take it with a grain of salt. I will never profess to know everything or that my way is the only right way! My opinion will always be flavored with my own experiences or examples I have seen presented to me - and in that light I will be introducing my own horses to you!

If you do not see a subject that you would like to read about. Let me know! As this is a new blog I am always up for suggestions.
